The Content on this site are all presented with diagrams of boxes describing objects and properties connected to each other with solid or dashed arrows to create a mental map of issues we are investigating. We call these NaviMaps (view example). Solid arrows are positive influence, i.e., they promote the boxes that are linked to each other, whilst dashed arrows describe negative influence or a demotion effect from one box to another.

Drawing NaviMaps is only the beginning. What is more important is how we use them. We have uncovered a set of rules and principles, which we call NaviThink (view example). NaviThink helps us to play forward our causal loop diagrams, suggesting how the NaviMap might evolve. It is built from the foundation of Systems Thinking, Scenario Building and the Science of 'Surprise', i.e, the branch of research, which deals with how and why things could suddenly change.

The crux of NaviThink is about describing the process of change in terms of how substantial reinforcing or counterbalancing loops are formed, destroyed and the ways they interact with each other. It helps us cut out the noise, to focus on what is material, helping you grasp the process of change better.
