INTRODUCTION:
On the other side of the world, the news of Hewlett Packard buying Compaq was welcomed with a falling stock price for both companies and cynicism all around. On this side of the world in the far east, the news was welcomed.

Coming so quickly after the merger announcement, it appears there is no time for contrarian thought. The leading newspapers are all bearish on the purchase including the venerable Economist magazine.
Since they all raise the same issues and are universally negative, I have chosen the article from the Valley Talk column in Fortune magazine website to turn into a NaviMap.
Conclusion: It is a mistake to be negative.
